Notställ nummer två

Example

I duellen mellan svenska pophjältar jag sett framträda med notställ i augusti förlorar Olle Ljungström på Way Out West helt klart mot Mauro Scocco på Popaganda.

Ternheim-publiken

Även två meter långa killar som ramlat rakt ur "Dude, Where's My Car" uppskattade fredagens konsert på Popaganda.

Hej Hajen!

Example

Dan i Phuket berättar!

With working for multinational companies for most of my adult life and never been happy with their day to day business sense I found myself yearning for more from my career. Progressing from unappreciated employment to sales jobs and to servicing work in hospitals I needed more from life. Those larger companies never seem to look after the employees who do the most work. No matter how dedicated and hardworking you are they always try and squeeze every last iota from you with no reward.

Realising my life needed a change and even today I still keep in touch with my ex colleagues who still do the same routine day in day out which I never want to go back to, I started looking at freelance writing.

As I moved abroad from my home in England to Thailand, I have had far more weird and wonderful experiences than I would have back home. I began bidding for work on the many agencies online and having completed every article, blog, report on time, every time I have applied myself to every variety of work thrown at me. Writing topics completely unknown to me, such as online casino games or Icelandic airports I have expanded my knowledge of the world even more.

Being chosen to write for a website or to help promote one is so thrilling and having tight deadlines makes for quick or sometimes hectic workloads. Whatever a new day brings I learn something new and feel more alive. I think of it as a educational hobby rather than a job now.

Being away from my home country I see situations in a different light and rarely find myself without something interesting to write about. Working from home too has its benefits, meaning I can spend more time with my beautiful girlfriend (who also writes) and my two naughty puppies. Once my work is done I head off to the beach and know I have completed my daily task to its fullest.

Writing content for websites or webpages needs a knack, a voice, something to engage the reader. Making money from putting pen to paper, or fingers to the keyboard is hard work but enjoyable.

One of the most memorable contracts I have had was writing for an online advertising company. Having been given a brief needing a pushy sales extracts for an American audience was great fun. “You’re stupid for not buying from us” was the main influence. I wrote articles about how to promote and market a website while giving fresh ideas to the reader to help thrust their business into being a successful one.

Too many website owners underestimate the power of the internet. As a hobby I sell items on eBay and with Christmas Day 2008 being my most successful. At a time when most retailers were closed and being deep into a global recession it was a surprise to say the least.

My philosophy behind outsourced or freelance writing is to find something that intrigues you or a passion and go for it. There’s so much fulfillment from seeing your own work posted on a website for the whole world to read.

Slutsourcat

Och med ett inlägg där någon kallas "Phil Collins (back in the day) of the classical music world", så avslutades alltså Extra allts outsourcade vecka.

My Good Sauce

My Sauce Good are taking their almost gypsy like repertoire of their acts to Sydney Latino Film Festival this coming week (2nd-13th September). The festival sees vast range of Latin American bands and groups gather together encapsulate the unique style of music.

I liken Dirk Kruithof to Phil Collins (back in the day) of the classical music world. He melds music together and with the multi-lingual (or instruments in Phil’s case) Laura Brozky singing in French, Italian, Hebrew or Spanish makes incredible music. As Collins would write songs and then piece together the instruments, as long as he could play them, they would come together in harmony.

The sharpness of the violinist, Veren Grigorov, gets the ears pricked and the fingers wafting like a composer. You can see why INXS and TV productions including King Lear and Midsummer Nights Dream used Grigorov’s skills to good use. Let’s hope the judges of the festival see the same way and they get some recognition they deserve!

The effervescent trio is likely to be up there with the rest of them. Their uniqueness and unflappable talent shines through where others waiver and folk and 20’s jazz are a difficult mix to get right.

Bark Cat Bark vs Yann Tiersen

Multi-talented and multi-instrumentalists the Parisian Josh Todd has always been likened to Yann Tiersen. While Josh might be 20 years younger (at the tender age of 19), I can’t help but hope that he might take minimalist classical/French folk music away from the underground and pierce the limelight.

His ever faithful followers were in despair when MySpace blocked his free download music links. Never fear they are available here.

Yann Tiersen with his vast academy training from Boulogne, Nantes and Rennes has similarly owns many instrumental talents. I think, despite having more experience, is a little more uptight compared to Josh’s work, as if his leash is more flexy rubber to Yann’s solid steel.

I suppose it’s the younger man’s freedom and excruciatingly bright outlook on his popular experimental music. The next question is who is next? Who can take on Mr.Todd’s eclectic compositions? Can Maite Itoiz and John Kelly backtrack from the ‘cheesy’ mainstage acts and diversify more?

I’d like to less freebies from Josh. Yes it makes his beautiful work accessible but there needs to be a balance between giving things away and not becoming a multi-millionaire gangster you see on MTV!

Is BluRay this Xmas Wii

With Christmas looming, I know I know the summer isn’t over yet, are we gearing up for another crazy retailing winter? Deep into the worst recession since the 1930’s, there are talks of it waning but I don’t see the governments handing out cash like the banks have been getting.

Christmas 09 will be another tight one. Hopefully this means that prices will be lower. The storm of the Nintendo Wii caused a few years ago might be met by the hopeful DVD replacement. It’s expected that Blu-Ray will catch up fully by 2012 to DVD sales. As with the Wii, it has already been available, but with prices coming down, or being forced rather, we might see a general takeover in the shops.

Playstation3
sales are increasing due to lower prices, in turn pressuring stand alone Blu-Ray machines to being more affordable. It won’t be long before we see Blu-Ray iPhones and MP4 Blu-Ray gizmos but for now lets hope they get the basics right. Blu-Ray has revolutionalised the filming industry. Batman: The Dark Knight has been a fairly defining moment this year for Blu-Ray helped by the unfortunate death of Heath Ledger in January before the films release.

R.D. Welch Broadcasting Genius Turns Into Compassionate Cat Lover

He’s been in broadcasting upper management for 20 years, now he’s a novelist with a soft touch. RD Welch’s: Button A Forever Friend exacerbates his loneliness from his recent divorce and documents his heartfelt story in finding ‘Button’.

The TV anchor and multiple ADDY award winner shows his softer side by having a new and different kind of love for a discarded cat. It goes to show that even hot headed businessman are human after all. Even being a pillar of the TV and production world, life after his wife and having 4 grown up children can leave the soul empty. His children lead their own lives and now little Button is helping him find his feet again.

Lots of people are affected by divorce and it can almost be like a death. The change of normality, order and routine is side swiped until something replaces it. The need for self discovery and rebuilding is apparent and ultimately a pet can fill the void. Every pet owner talks and treats their animal with unconditional love, unless it bites you, and their reliance on a human figure becomes noticeable once they realize the lack of thumbs and those pesky tin cans.

Films Shot With Handheld Cameras

Most widely known is the Blair Witch Project (1999) with its band of teens running through the Burkittsville Woods panting into the microphone. It creates a sense of realism and more social event. Handheld camera films are annoying at the same rate as being appealing. The view is just skewed enough for the mind to play tricks, especially during scary films such as Quarantine (2008) or Kubrick’s Dr.Strangelove (1964) illustrating revenge on Jack the Ripper.

For the lower budget films such as the Dardenne Brothers’ Lorna’s Silence the handheld camera depicts a poorer social setting, rather than the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Whilst the brothers from Belgium manage to create a powerful and believable story, the general feel is that camcorders are really only worthwhile for documentary type films, or short ones.

Personally I like these kinds of movies that give the viewer a chance to melt into the story and as they are viewed from the first person you find yourself entered into the plot. Although, I for one wouldn’t be holding a camera if there were scary rabid beasts chasing me, if I was I would make sure it was the right way up, that’s for sure!

Choose what you read NY

Claire Wilsons vision of having commuters and online media lovers, having a retrospective step and picking up a donated book from major NY subways. The internet is full of information, some factual, some not.

She wants to bring back the calmness of reading a decent novel and wipeout the tabloid propaganda. Yes the world goes through recessions all of the time, but last year was a joke as the media publications did nothing to quench the publics fear, only fuelled it.

Her website choosewhatyoureadny.com allows fellow readers to read a book and trace where it goes to next. Sort of an anonymous pen pal system. You drop the books off in boxes around NY and bounce onto the next one. If you regularly use the subway then why expand your mind instead of clogging it with journalistic twaddle.

I love the idea, as it’s a non profit organization it’s free, and surely a train full of readers is a nicer place to be than robbers paradise teaming with gangsters?

Have a look here! And get browsing before September 1st, when the next book exchange occurs. Wilson started ironically on a facebook page but has now moved on to the website.
