Arctic Monkeys: Humbug and headlining

Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August 2009 sees the Leeds/Reading Festival’s headlining act Artic Monkeys bounce onto stage. Hopefully the British ‘summer’ will hold out for Alex Turner et al to tease their ever faithful fans with a selection of their new album, Humbug. Of course as it is released today, Monday 24th, it leaves enough time to learn the words!

Although the Libertines were the first band to utilise the internet to informally interact with fans, it was Arctic Monkeys who really were the pioneers. Using MySpace, they virally marketed themselves and still own the record for the fastest selling debut album in British music history. ‘Whatever People Say I am, That’s What I’m Not’ trounced even Oasis’ ‘Definitely Maybe’.

Arctic Monkeys were eventually signed by Domino Records in 2006, who at the time had Franz Ferdinand to compare against. Even just by mentioning them, shows how quick the music industry can change. Has anyone seen Alex Krapanos lately?

With Queens of the Stone Age’s frontrunner Josh Homme co-producing Humbug it looks like it’s going to be another class act. Turner admits they were heavily influenced by the psychedelic Jimi Hendrix giving a hint to their future ventures.

Hm. Inte helt makalöst längre. Snarare lite sorgligt.

Ja, jag tror att det är på den tunna linjen mellan roligt och sorgligt som vi kommer vandra den här veckan.

Det här har goda chanser att bli internethistoria.

"Although the Libertines were the first band to utilise the internet to informally interact with fans"

WTF?

The Libertines didn't even exist when the first band started interacting with their fans online (whoever the hell they were).
